About Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur

About Malaysia

Malaysia offers an eclectic mix of cultures, wonders and attractions. Home to centuries of rich cultural history spanning multiple nationalities and religions, the country is a melting pot of various races. Malaysia is truly a country that epitomizes Asia.

Such diversity is also extended to the landscape. Feel the rhythm of vivacious cities and serene countryside. Marvel at centuries-old rainforests and caves, idyllic beaches and colourful reefs. Savor mouth-watering culinary specialties, from spicy to sweet to exotic. Listen to the delights of shoppers over incredible bargains at quaint night markets or world-class malls. Bask in the fragrance of stunning flora and pure, invigorating air. And enjoy the warm hospitality of the friendly and engaging Malaysians.

At the same time, Malaysia combines all of those with the best of East Asian economic development. The country has fully embraced the technological age with heavy investment in modern infrastructure. Malaysia boasts two of the world’s tallest skyscrapers and a huge “cyber” center for computer businesses. Its transport network system is among the best in the region. This is a country where the old and the new sit side by side, where ancient traditions blend beautifully with the modern setting of the urban landscape.

Further information on the country can also be obtained from the Malaysian government’s official website, and Tourism Malaysia official website.

About Kuala Lumpur

GHKL---Skyline-with-Petronas-Twin-TowersEnjoying direct air links from almost every major city from all corners of the globe, Kuala Lumpur is a gateway to Malaysia’s fascinating destinations. Just like the ancient Malay empire of the past, Kuala Lumpur’s commercial center is a grand meeting place for merchants and travelers from all over the world.

Kuala Lumpur brings together Malaysia’s past and present, as characterized by the sight of the evocative British colonial buildings amid the city’s bustling streets and its shining, modern office towers. One of Southeast Asia’s most impressive and energetic capitals, the city has grown over the course of the last century from a sleepy tin mining colony to a glittering global cosmopolitan hub. The Malaysian metropolis has weathered the turn-of-the-millennium Asian economic crises and continues to develop, its optimism symbolized by the iconic thrust of the ultra-tall Petronas Twin Towers.

Home to some of Southeast Asia’s biggest and most prestigious shopping malls, Kuala Lumpur is a popular shopping destination for both locals and international visitors. Kuala Lumpur is a city full of wonderful sights, lively neighborhoods, magnificent architecture and rich culture.

About Accessibility and Local Transportation

Peninsular Malaysia’s transportation network is diverse with extensive roadways stretching over 63,445km, including 1,630km of expressways. Its main highway extends over 800km, from the Thai border all the way to Singapore.

Buses and taxis are the most popular form of transportation. Express buses and regional buses connect many towns and cities to each other. Buses connecting towns and cities charge fares according to the distance covered.

Taxis are the most widely and easily available form of transportation. City taxis operate by meter and may be hired from taxi stands, hailed by roadside or called through a radiophone paging system. There are also minivan-type taxis for carrying larger parties.

Light Rapid Transit (LRT) and KL Monorail provide inner-city public transportation for Kuala Lumpur, serving businesses, hotels and shopping districts, as well as major parts of greater Kuala Lumpur. Fares are more affordable than taxis and will connect with other LRT and train networks at KL Sentral.

KLIA Ekspres

The fastest way to travel to and from the airport is the new KLIA Ekspres. This non-stop service takes less than 30 minutes and ends at KL Sentral. Cost is RM35 each way.
